Les Ameriques Est Arrivee!!!

We have exciting news for our readers. For the first time, beginning with the April 2000 issue of Americas (Volume 52, number 2), the magazine will also be published in an identical French-language edition. We are delighted that, with special support from the Government of Canada, we can make the magic of our inter-American adventure available to a wider audience.

Memories Across Borders

It was with great interest that I read the story of El Ranchito de los Perez (Americas, December 1999). It brought back many memories since I am a Zacatecano, born in 1947 in Jalpa, close to Juchipila, Mexico. I came to the U.S. when I was ten years old.... It is incredible to see the number of people from that region in Mexico who have traveled to the U.S. in order to find work and then stayed to start a new life. My father found a job with the railroad in Nevada, so that is where I spent the first ten years in this country, and then I went to the University of Pacific and graduated. I was drafted into the U.S. Army and was in for twenty-three years. I am now in charge of security for the Organization of American States. It would be great to read a stow of those people who have succeeded in this country. Most of my extended family lives in Los Angeles and there is a large number of people from Jalpa living in San Jose. Your stow urges me to write about my experiences, but for now I'll just let you know that you made my day.
