What about Tapirs?

I am a young university student studying environmental sciences and am writing you to congratulate you on your wonderful magazine. I enjoy Americas because of its thorough articles, beautiful photography, and above all, its valuable information on Latin American culture.

I am interested in finding out whether you have ever published any articles on the tapir, which has four distinct species. Three of these species inhabit the New World and one lives in the Old World. The tapir lives in rain forests, such as the Amazon, and is one of my favorite animals. I would also like to know if you publish the magazine in Portuguese. Could you please send me a history of how Americas began?

Editors' reply: Thank you for your interest in Americas. One of our contributors is currently researching an article on the tapir for future publication in the magazine. In the meantime, if you would like information on this animal, you may contact World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th Street, Washington DC 20037. We would be happy to mail you background information on the OAS and Americas. For starters, though, please refer to the secretary general's letter on the inside front cover of this issue. As for the Portuguese edition of the magazine, unfortunately, it was discontinued in 1981.
