Mark Myers was chosen to serve as the vice chancellor for research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He starts his new position in January. He is currently working as the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act coordinator for the State of Alaska.

Cheryl Hatch, a war photographer, newspaper reporter and documentary filmmaker, was chosen to serve as the C.W. Snedden Chair in Journalism at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. As a reporter and photographer, Hatch covered conflicts in the Middle East and Africa, including the aftermath of the first Gulf War in Iraq. Hatch received the Pew Fellowship in International Journalism at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies.
