Fred Schlutt was hired as director and vice provost for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service. He most recently worked for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service.

Grace Berg Schaible received the University of Alaska President's Medal for Excellence, which was established in 2000 and honors people who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the university. In Alaska, Schaible is the first, and so far, only woman to serve as state attorney general. She has served on the UA Board of Regents and the University of Alaska Foundation's Board of Trustees.

Glenn Juday's work was included in a recently published book aiming to explain climate change to children and pre-teens. Juday is a University of Alaska Fairbanks professor of forest ecology.
