Former Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer was appointed chancellor for the University of Alaska Anchorage. Ulmer had served as interim chancellor for more than a year and prior to that, she worked two years as head of UAA's Institute of Social and Economic Research. UAA President Mark Hamilton appointed UAA history department Professor Stephen Haycox to distinguished professor to honor his contributions to UAA and Alaska. Haycox has been a UAA faculty member for 37 years, has written several books and writes a column for the Anchorage Daily News.

In other news, Brian Rogers, a former UA regent, was chosen interim chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
