The United Kingdom's Office of National Statistics (ONS) has signed a contract with Siemens Business Services (SBS) to digitize 250 million birth, death, and marriage records from 1837 to the present.

The three-year Digitisation of Vital Events (DOVE) project will create a central database by scanning, digitizing, and indexing paper registration certificates for the UK population over the past 168 years.

SBS will scan 80,000 ONS microfilms containing the ONS' paper archives and send them via an encrypted link to a center in India where they will be entered into a database and then returned to the ONS.
