We might be annoyed by the weaving sports car whose plates announce that it's "2FAST4U," or amused by the Sammy Hagar fan who has kept on rockin' with "0U812." But it's hard to take vanity plates seriously.

It's also hard to take seriously the New Hampshire citizen who complained that a fellow driver's plate was a government-sanctioned hate message. But the authorities listened, and they ultimately seized the plate in November.
