In reference to your November 2005 story, "Satellite Radio Could Globalize Tsunami Warning," Raytheon may have an idea, but it's by no means new or unique.

The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration has been operating the EMWIN (Emergency Managers Weather Information Network) satellite service for emergency managers for several years now, with coverage over North America and the Pacific Basin.

Raytheon's claim to be able to reach the United States overnight is at least a decade late. I admit that they are not very good at letting people know about the service, but I suspect that Raytheon's system doesn't scratch the surface of EMWIN's requirements.
