Tri-State University: independent university with a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1.
Position | Management and evaluation of Tri-State University |
Tri-State University in Angola, Ind., is riding a wave of positive change like none in its history. An independent university, it enrolls 1,600 students. With small classes and a low student-to-faculty ratio (13:1), students find it easy to build solid relationships with their professors. TSU's engineering program has built an especially solid reputation over the years, but the university also offers bachelor's degrees in education, business, and most of the sciences.
ENHANCED CAMPUS
Under its Vision for the Future capital campaign, TSU has embarked on a $90 million campus improvement plan, which includes the unveiling of its new University Center and Center for Online Technology. The $15.5 million project includes a 320-seat theater, library, cafe dining for students and the community, cutting-edge technology and global work spaces, sports and wellness center, even a rock-climbing wall. The renovation of the historic Sniff building into the C.W. Sponsel Administration Center provides gracious space for university departments. New student apartments replace dormitory-style living, and a $2 million campus-wide technology upgrade now provides a totally wireless environment.
DUAL DEGREES
TSU has introduced master of engineering degrees in mechanical and civil engineering which allow qualified students who commit to the program as freshmen to earn a bachelor of science and master of engineering simultaneously. Both degrees can be completed in five years, including one summer design project.
An expanded curriculum means more choices for TSU students, including a new major in entrepreneurship. Drawing from the areas of marketing, management, accounting and finance, this program provides the foundation for a student wanting to launch an enterprise or assume the operation of a family-owned business. TSU's golf management majors train on the university's 18-hole, championship Zollner Golf Course, which is also open to TSU students. The school boasts nationally known programs in forensic science and cast metals, and has added a robotics minor.
