Scope: The State Department’s Bureau of International
Security-Nonproliferation seeks applications for the
FY2021 Reducing Revisionist State Biological and
Chemical Weapons Threats announcement to identify
and disrupt the ability of revisionist proliferator states
to develop chemical and biological weapons (CBW)
capabilities.
Deadline: Jan. 29, 2021.

Qatari Audience Analysis (DOS)
Scope: The State Department’s U.S. Mission to Qatar
seeks applications for the Qatari Audience Analysis
announcement to conduct a comprehensive audience
analysis study on Qataris in Qatar and implement a
program to help address the underlying factors identied
in the study.
Deadline: Jan. 15, 2021.
Funds: One award of up to $250,000.
Eligibility: Nonprot and nongovernmental
organizations.
Areas: DOS said examples of such activities can
include: gathering information about the Qatari
population, its likes and dislikes, favorite pastime
activities and places to visit, etc., and learning how
Qataris engage with the media, how they communicate
with one another, where they convene and what voices
they consider to be credible. This would be followed
by developing a strategy to help improve information
dissemination and content creation on the right
platforms for greater reach to target audiences.

Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator
Research Project Grant (NIH)
Scope: The National Institutes of Health seeks (R01)
research project grant applications for the Stephen I.
Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Project Grant
announcement to support an innovative project that
represents a change in research direction for an early-
stage investigator (ESI) and for which no preliminary
data exists.
Deadline: Jan. 26, 2021; May 26, 2021; and Sept. 28,
2021.
Funds: The number of awards depends on
appropriations and the submission of a sufficient
number of quality applications. The maximum project
period is ve years.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; and state, local, special district and Native
American tribal governments; among others.
Areas: NIH said the proposed research projects can rely
on the Program Director/Principal Investigator’s (PD/PI’s)
prior work and expertise as its foundation but must not
be an incremental advancement, expansion or extension
of a previous research effort. The change in research
direction could involve, for example, a new approach,
methodology, technique, discipline, therapeutic target
and/or new paradigm, different from the ESI’s previous
research efforts. Importantly, the proposed direction
must represent a change in research direction for the
PD/PI.

Treatments for Lewy Body Dementias (NINDS/

Scope: The National Institute of Neurological
Disorders and Stroke and the National Institute
on Aging seek (U01) research project cooperative
agreement applications for the Treatments for Lewy
Body Dementias announcement to conduct exploratory
clinical trials designed to test new treatments for patients
with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).
Deadline: Letters of Intent, Feb. 2, 2021; proposals,
March 2, 2021.
Funds: $2 million total in FY2021 for one to two awards.
The maximum project period is ve years.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; and state, local, special district and Native
American tribal governments; among others.
Areas: NINDS/NIA said applicants may propose
to conduct either Phase I or Phase II clinical trials,
depending on the developmental stage of the potential
therapeutic. All applications should justify that: (1) the
proposed clinical trial addresses an important unmet
medical need for patients with LBD, (2) the proposed
treatment has a plausible biological mechanism of
action relevant for LBD and (3) sufficient in vivo and/or in
