Leading a charge as if he were already back in the Marines, state Treasurer MIKE COFFMAN started a Colorado political landslide of sorts when he decided to re-up with the military rather than run for governor. Sen. MARK HILLMAN was appointed by Gov. BILL OWENS as acting state treasurer, leaving Hillman's Senate seat vacant. But State Rep. GREG BROPHY, a farmer from Wray, was named by a GOP committee to fill the Hillman gap. The snowball also caught up Sen. NORMA ANDERSON, as she was unanimously chosen by the 17-member Republican caucus to succeed Hillman as minority leader of the Senate. The Denver Art Museum named PETER HASSRICK director for the Institute of Western American Art, hoping to set Western art connoisseurs' saddles ablaze. Hassrick previously directed the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyo., for 20 years. He is a founding director of the Charles M.
