Access America, Tripatini Access America and Travel Social Network Tripatini Embark on Partnership. Access America, the world's leading travel insurance provider and a brand of Mondial Assistance, and, dubbed "Facebook for Travelers" by the New York Post, today announced a partnership designed to engage travelers and travel professionals. The collaboration will create promotional contests and giveaways, Access America-sponsored content on Tripatini, and the first Tripatini Tweet-up for travel media and bloggers. The Tripatini Travel Trivia Quiz(1) will be live on July 11 through July 27. Tripatini members and site visitors who take the general knowledge trivia quiz will be entered in a random drawing for a chance to win a $500 airline gift card, a luggage set or a digital camera. Amazon Suppliers see 1.2 million Amazon tablet shipments. Tablet equipment suppliers are predicting Amazon will ship up to 1.2 million of the devices by the close of September, according to a published report, which says that would put Amazon behind only the iPad in third-quarter shipments, even though Amazon has not officially disclosed the product's release date. American Airlines Priceline: Direct Connect with American Airlines proves a success. Despite claims by Orbitz and Expedia that Direct Connect technology was costly and inefficient, Priceline reports that more than 1,000 daily bookings are occurring daily through American Airlines. The technology provides access to ancillary products and services, in addition to fares. The online travel agency began booking through Direct Connect in February. Jul 11, 2011

Apple TiVo remote app now runs on iPhone, iPod touch. TiVo has made it official that its remote application, previously available on the iPad tablet, now can function on Apple's iPhone and iPod touch devices. The app has limited compatibility with TiVo's older Series3, TiVo HD and TiVo HD XL DVRs. Still to come: an Android version of the remote app. Jul 13, 2011

Apple, Amazon Spotify arrives in U.S. digital music market. Daniel Ek, co-founder of Sweden-based digital music vendor Spotify, launched the business in the U.S. this week after working for two years to hammer out deals with record labels. Until now, the service has been available in seven European countries and has drawn 1.6 million paid subscribers and more than 10 million registered users. The U.S. market is expected to pose some challenges given tenured offerings from Apple and Amazon, so actual profit may remain out of reach for a while, according to this analysis. Jul 14, 2011

Apple, Google Pew report reveals the economics of smartphone ownership. More than a third of American adults now own smartphones, according to a poll of 2,277 people conducted by Pew Research. AT&T AT&T intros LTE products, will offer updated 4G TouchPad. AT&T on Tuesday introduced a pair of devices designed to support its Long-Term Evolution launch, planned for five cities this summer, while Hewlett-Packard said it would release an upgraded 4G TouchPad tablet for AT&T. AT&T, Sony Sony has high hopes for new tablet. AT&T is the exclusive U.S. provider for Sony's foldable S2 tablet, coming this fall, and plans to offer prepaid and postpaid options for the Android-based device.
