You might say the transportation industry forecast is a bit like going "back to the future." Dick Cattanach, with Associated General Contractors of Alaska, says the transportation picture for this year should mirror that of the best years that Alaska saw back in the early 1980s. The oil money was flowing and Alaska had "Project 80s." Alaska will get more than its fair share of federal money, around $350 million from the federal government in highway funds. This trend will continue into the very foreseeable future, as Alaska will receive generous funding, but those dollars will have to be stretched further because, among other things, rising construction costs...
