Estes Park entrepreneurs and hiking buddies Fran Grooters and Joan Van Horn recognized a demand for "easy-to-use references for hiking," but didn't launch Trail Tracks until a skiing trip in 1992. "We were looking at a downhill skiing map and thought it would be perfect," said Grooters. The pair tracked down the map's artist, James Niehues, and commissioned a hiking map of Rocky Mountain National Park, complete with color-coded trails and a key with mileages and elevation changes. Fourteen years later, there are seven hiking maps in the Trail Tracks catalog: Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion and Yosemite...
