'Tougher in Alaska': Alaska writer, journalist hosts weekly series on History Channel.

Geo Beach stands 6 foot 3 inches tall and weights 225 pounds. His physique was just one of the qualities the producers were looking for when they chose him to host a new weekly series, "Tougher in Alaska," which began last month and is still running on the History Channel.

Beach is an award-winning writer and journalist, a former logger and firefighter, a commercial fisherman and medic. These are other qualifies producers looked for. Someone in the know. Someone with experience. Someone with tenacity, strength and enthusiasm.

He knows his way around oil spills, industrial kitchens, construction sites and law enforcement. He's endured big waves, winds and blizzards. He's survived earthquakes, avalanches, floods and fires. And his house in Homer overlooks three steaming volcanoes on the Alaska Peninsula, two of which have erupted on him, said a release from Moore Huntley Productions.

Former Alaska Business Monthly writer Beach, is tough. He is the perfect match for this 13-part nonfiction documentary series.

"'Tougher in Alaska' is into the real, which is plenty wild enough," said Beach. "These are the real stories of real living Alaskans--not some old dead myth. It'll scare the life into ya!"

According to a press release, put out by History from New York in April, everything is tougher in Alaska.

"From earning a living to burying the dead, everyday life here has always been shaped by severe weather, rugged terrain and vast distances between communities.

"The people who call Alaska home have a long history of overcoming adversity and adapting to their extreme environment. Host Geo Beach, who has lived in Alaska for more than 25 years, is on a quest to find out what it really takes to survive and thrive in Alaska."
