When it comas to emotional baggage, the inability to forgive is a major cause of sadness, depression, and loneliness, according to holistic physician Bradley Nelson, author of The Emotion Code.

"When we withhold forgiveness from someone who has hurt us, we may think that we are getting even with that person; we may think that we are hurting that person; but nothing could be further from the truth. What we are really doing is we are hurting ourselves--and, when we allow ourselves to finally forgive that person who has hurt us, the end result is peace for us."

Nelson suggests these steps to reach forgiveness:
