VIGO COUNTY

Vigo County Industrial Park on Terre Haute's south side has several new developments, reports Steve Witt, executive director of Terre Haute/Vigo County's Department of Redevelopment. Wabash Valley Packaging, a locally owned manufacturer of corrugated shipping containers, will open this fall in the park, after a $4 million construction and equipment investment. The plant will employ 35 within two years and ship within a 50- to 60-mile radius. Doughmakers Inc., also a locally owned company, will begin production of aluminum bakeware with 25 employees in its new $3 million plant. It isn't finalized yet, but Ryerson Steel is' considering locating a service center next to Heartland Steel,

Pfizer Inc. is constructing two new facilities on Terre Haute's south side, a $35 million animal health research facility that will employ about 25 laboratory technicians and researchers, and a $70 million inhaled-insulin plant, to employ more than 50.

Drug manufacturer Aipharma Inc. will spend $8 million to retrofit the former Mallinckrodt facility on the west side of Terre Haute to produce the swine growth hormone PST. Employment is expected to reach 44.

The city of Terre Haute is doing its part to revitalize the downtown with the building of the new six-story, $7 million Center City project. Construction was completed in July, when 33 market-rate apartments and 15,000 square feet of commercial space came on line.

This fall, Garmong DesignBuild begins the first of a four-phase commercial development in downtown Terre Haute with an initial $2 mil lion investment. Plans call for the multi-floor complex at Eighth and Wabash Avenues to offer upscale office space, a connected parking garage, apartments or condominiums and corporate suites.

PUTNAM COUNTY

Heartland Automotive in Greencastle breaks grounds this fall on its $27 million dashboard and automotive trim plant. Also in Greencastle, metal-stamping manufacturer Oxford Automotive plans a $14 million expansion. Each will employ 150 workers.

The Spencer/Owen school district joined with the Area 30 Career Center to provide training opportunities for students and Ivy Tech has co-located a satellite campus with the career center to offer programs in Greencastle.

GREENE COUNTY

Royalty Homes, a manufacturer of modular and mobile homes is relocating its business to Linton within the next year, reports Charles Dibble, executive director of the Greene County Economic Development Corp.
