Toasting is something Americans do all year, whether it's at a wedding, football game, or a birthday party. However, it is even more common around the holidays--a time to reflect on the past and celebrate the coming of a new year with friends and family. Yet, one does not enter into a toast lightly, as there is toasting etiquette.

Before raising a glass to make a toast. Barton Brands, Ltd., Chicago. recommends that you remember the following:

Always see the glass half full. Only toast when everyone's glass is full, or at least partially full. It is considered rude to ask guests or a host to scramble to fill glasses before the end of the toast.
