IMCO Aviation Services, Inc. (TIMCO), headquartered in Greensboro, made recent headlines after announcing the execution of a definitive agreement to be acquired by Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company, Ltd. (HAECO). While the transaction means TIMCO will be part of a much larger, global aircraft maintenance services company, all of its business units will continue to operate under the company's existing structure, though it will now become a wholly-owned subsidiary of HAECO. TIMCO's headquarters will continue to be located in facilities at the Piedmont Triad International Airport.

Founded in 1990, TIMCO has been a leading provider of large aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services, known in the industry as MRO. The company has grown and expanded from a single hangar at one site to four, multiha_ngar airport locations. In addition to Greensboro, TIMCO operates base maintenance facilities in Macon, Ga.; Lake City, Fla.; and Cincinnati.

Today, as the largest of TIMCO's business units, these base maintenance operations support major airlines by offering regularly scheduled maintenance on large jet fleets. The division also regularly performs modifications to aircraft, such as installing winglets on the ends of wings to support fuel savings, upgrading inflight entertainment (IFE) systems in aircraft cabins and removing and replacing monuments in the aircraft cabin like seats and lavatories to create a fresh, new experience for passengers. TIMCO employs more than 1,000 licensed mechanics and uses nearly 1.5 million square feet of hangar and support space at all of its base maintenance facilities.
