To commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Deutsches Orient-Gesellschaft in 1898, its current Vorsitzender, Gernot Wilhelm, has edited a volume intended to convey the high points of the history of this venerable organization to a popular audience. Nineteen short essays by sixteen authors discuss the excavations conducted by the society up through 1995. These have included work in Assyria, Babylonia, Syria, Palestine, Egypt, and Anatolia.
