Steven A. Thompson has joined the National Defense Industrial Association as vice president of government policy.

The vice president of government policy is the association's chief lobbyist, responsible for oversight and implementation of the annually produced government policy agenda. Thompson will oversee NDIA's Legislative Information Committee, International Committee and Procurement Committee. He is also the key representative to several inter-association coalitions.

Thompson replaces Peter C. Scrivner, who retires after 11 years at NDIA and the American Defense Preparedness Association (ADPA), NDIA's predecessor.

For the past 12 years, Thompson worked on Capitol Hill as a professional staff member for the House Armed Services Committee. Since 1995, he has been staff director for the armed services subcommittee on military procurement. In that post, he advised members of Congress on all procurement policy relating to the Defense Department and Energy Department nuclear weapons programs. He also served as the primary Armed Services Committee liaison to the House Intelligence Committee. He has a top-secret security clearance.

Before joining the Armed Services Committee, Thompson worked at the Pentagon, for then-secretary of the Air Force Edward C. "Pete" Aldridge, who is now the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics.
