In the U.S., we tend to eat three meals per day. It is not unusual to dine out several times per week, or to heap our plates with more food than we can take in. There also may be a tendency to forget that not everyone worldwide has such access to a bevy of edible items. 'The issue is largely out of sight, out of mind for us," says Seema Sanghavi, founder of Cooks Who Feed. "However, we all do care about those who need help. The more we know about It, the more we can choose to do something to help make it better."

In 2020, according to the World Health Organization, world hunger began outpacing global population growth. It is estimated that around 10% of the people on the planet are undernourished. More than 149, -000,000 children under the age of five have stunted growth due to not receiving proper nutrition. There are 2,300,000,000 people around the world who lack year-round access to adequate nutrition. Moreover, wasting food contributes 11% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.
