My friend Jonathan Rowe recently visited the Philippines, and tells of meeting a young man who had just quit his job at a corporate call center in Manila. "There are over 50 of these places, some of them occupying whole buildings, I'm told. Chances are, when you call Microsoft, Citibank, and anyone of that ilk, you actually are calling the Philippines or else India. Corporations are assiduous at hiding this from their customers.
