Always fans of board and card game--it's just a great way to bring family and friends together--we happily tried some of this year's offerings from Winning Moves Games, some new to us and some with a twist on old favorites.

Once you've mastered the Rubik's Cube, you almost can do it with your eyes closed, but we are intrigued by The Void Puzzle ($15.95), the standard cube with a hole in the middle where the center colors should be. You can see right through it; there doesn't appear to be any mechanism in there. So how does it turn? We don't know, but it has a great feel and the movements are smooth. It's as much fun as the original. For ages eight and up.

Bring a flair for the international to the table with Scopa: the Great Italian Card Game ($5.95). In this traditional game, players claim cards by playing one from their hand that matches the value of one or more on the table. This wonderfully illustrated game is intended for two to four players, age 10 and up.
