Every day, in communities across the United States and around the world, franchise businesses make deep and lasting impacts through creative community outreach programs. They donate their time, energy and skills to meet community needs. Giving back fosters a real sense of teamwork and collegiality among these franchisees.
As the IFA Foundation celebrates 35 years of serving the franchising community, we're reflecting on how far Franchising Gives Back has come since its inception in 2011. It started when a group of us decided during a convention to organize a volunteer campaign to serve those in the community of the host city. Since then, Franchising Gives Back has grown to recognize franchise leaders who are making a difference and inspiring their peers to do the same. The combined local contributions of franchising create a significant impact worldwide.
In 2015, the foundation hosted the first annual Franchising Gives Back Awards to recognize the many ways franchisors, franchisees and suppliers give back to their communities. It remains the best, most effective way to show our elected leaders and the public that franchises are locally owned businesses committed to giving back to the communities they serve. While we have honored several of the community service programs of franchise businesses and have heard some amazing stories, there are so many more stories that have never been shared publicly. Here's a few examples:
TACKLING ISSUES ABROAD
As mosquito control experts, Mosquito Squad fights the bite every day for clients in the United States and abroad through its protective treatment services. To further aid in global protection efforts, Mosquito Squad forged a partnership more than six years ago with Malaria No More, a nonprofit global health organization with the goal of ending malaria deaths. Through donations from the brand's franchisees, clients and corporate team, Mosquito Squad has raised more than $400,000 to help fuel the fight against malaria by supporting activities in Cameroon to ensure adequate, timely and widespread communications that help inform school-aged children, mothers' groups and communities regarding protective bed net distributions and proper usage. In addition to monetary donations, several Mosquito Squad corporate and franchisee ambassadors have traveled to Cameroon to meet with local government officials, educate the community on staying protected and install bed nets in orphanages and clinics.
