The University of Alaska Fairbanks has awarded its 2007 Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching, Research and Public Service awards to Yelena Matusevich, A. David McGuire and Shirish Patil. Matusevich, an associate professor of French, received the teaching award. She has taught languages for eight years at UAF, where she revamped the French program by creating new classes and increasing extracurricular and exchange opportunities.
