Sometimes I wake in the dark from a terrible nightmare where my "online" printer is "offline" again. Or I am not sure if my envelope has enough stamps for its size, weight, and destination, so I must head out to the post office. Or I'm out of paper with a deadline due. Or I need to pay $1 per page for a special email filing, no credit cards (only after calling the clerk of court to get permission, of course). Or I must look up the address of a court and write a cover letter for my filing, and make sure to provide enough copies for everyone and a self-addressed stamped envelope for myself. Oh, the horror!

After years of hard work by many wonderful and thoughtful people on the Wyoming Judicial Branch's e-filing committee, I am happy to say these nightmares are becoming less frequent (at least in the District Courts). Now, from my lightweight laptop and from anywhere in the world with a WI-FI or hot spot connection, I can draft, sign, and file all my Wyoming District Court documents with the click of a button. I know instantly my deadline has been met, with the exact hour and minute of my filing at the top of the page. I know without a doubt that opposing counsel has been served with my filing, no cover letter necessary. I need no printer, no pen, no scanner, no envelope, no stamp, no mail truck, no tracking...
