Moshe Z. Marvit and Jason Bacasa's article ["Mail Models," March/April 2013] is a good reminder of how vital it is to preserve the U.S. Postal Service, which takes no tax money and is among the nation's largest civilian employers. If it were allowed to compete without congressional interference, such as by not being forced to pre-fund its employees' health care or be hobbled vis-a-vis the privately owned delivery services, it would not be running deficits in its current operations.
