Introduction

You and your teammates have draed documents that you hope will lead

to patent protection for your innovative technology. In doing so you have

followed the steps discussed in Chapter 2. In subsequent chapters, we

will discuss how to formulate a patent strategy (including how to priori-

tize your applications), how to conduct a prior art search, and delve into

more detail about draing suitable claims. In this chapter, we will address

what transpires between your having draed the text that discloses your

invention(s) until the time when, hopefully, one or more patents are ulti-

mately issued.

During the course of draing your proposed patent applications, you

have taken an overview of your project and decided what patent applica-

tions should be led now and what would be more benecial to postpone.

You have conducted the prior art searches, draed proposed claims, and

written the sections on the background and description of the invention or

inventions. You have taken care not to disclose more than you need to in
