If one ever doubted the daunting challenges of the present energy transition, a quick survey of the topics addressed in this Special Issue will dispel any reservations.

At a theoretical level, most economists support the use of market mechanisms and incentives to promote the evolution. But the devil lies in the details, whether in capacity markets, energy markets with congestion, or carbon markets. Each of these finds its way into this volume.
