SEO simply means "to be found on Google." In today's fast-paced world, that means the first page or the first three pages at the most. The benefits of a listing on the first page of Google is clear. It is the most valuable real estate on the Google search engine and stands for brand awareness, reputation, legitimacy, and consequently, lead generation. But for many, the term stands for the powers of Google and their controversial or clandestine algorithm that is rarely cracked. Not so fast, I say.

You may ask how, as a solo lawyer and small law firm, you could crack that code. The answer is easier than you think. Let's give Google what it wants: relevant, focused, high-value content.

We live in an online world that demands a focus on instant gratification. It takes people only four seconds to decide if they want to stay on your website. When it comes to the Google search engine, we rarely go past the first page of Google. We trust the powerful search engine to show us the most relevant content to our frequent searches for information. We rarely question its content ranking and often don't look further. Google does not divulge their stats, but experts estimate the daily search volume to be around 6 billion. Users look for advice, information, and guidance.

Here is where content marketing comes in, but just to be clear, there are no silver bullets when it comes to marketing all together, and rarely any instant gratification. It is about long-term commitment. Content marketing is about creating high-quality content on a consistent basis, and gauging what works and what does not. It is about putting the puzzle pieces together to create a content marketing strategy that moves you ever closer to that first page of Google.
