CLF is working to protect the ecological health of the Great Bay estuary on two fronts in Greenland, New Hampshire. In September 2003, CLF and the Greenland Conservation Commission won an important decision in an ongoing effort to stop the proposed 80-lot Falls Way subdivision. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services' Wetlands Bureau (DES) reversed its previous decision and denied the developer a permit for the project. The developer has appealed, but CLF is urging DES to stick with its denial in order to protect water quality in Great Bay tributaries Norton Brook and Winnicut River from impacts of contaminated stormwater, which can contain nutrients, metals and other toxics.
