Institution: First National Bank of Colorado, Boulder, Colo. Assets: $680 million; eight locations Agency: STRATECOM, Boulder, Colo.

This was a grand opening event that was so unique that it made the Guinness Book of World Records!

In June 2002, the bank planned to open a branch near the FlatIron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, Colo. To mark the occasion, bank leaders wanted to do something unique that would reinforce the institution's positioning as a bank that "pays attention" to doing the right things for the customer.

Working with an agency, the bank adopted the idea of staging a contest in which employees at the grand opening would attempt to set a new world record for accurately hand counting the most $1 bills in 30 seconds.

Personal banker Linda Knippa set a new world record during the grand opening by hand counting 109 $1 bills accurately in 30 seconds.
