In Norman Stockwell's review of the book The Evil of Banality (April/May issue), he quotes author Elizabeth Minnich saying, "The consequences of our not-thinking are great" and "people who aren't thinking are capable of anything."

Well, the most obvious example of not thinking is, in my opinion, religious indoctrination which encourages blind faith often tied to hatred and violence--and has brought about unimaginable evil to humanity. I hope that in her book, Professor Minnich did not omit the central role that...
