I applaud your effort [Matt Crossman's feature in the June issue]. My wife and I get up every weekday at 4:30 a.m. or earlier. We work full-time jobs in teeh and write novels in the meantime. I also write three to four flash-fiction pieces a week. This method has yielded three complete novels and about half of a fourth. I get up, shower, make coffee, meditate for 10 minutes, journal two pages, then write for an hour and a half. This daily discipline anchors my life and helps me feel I am moving toward something, which is necessary in these troubled times.
