Employees seem to be in less of a hurry to get to work these days as 20 percent of them said they arrive late to work at least once a week, an increase from 15 percent last year, according to a CareerBuilder.com survey. Traffic was the main culprit cited by workers (33 percent), followed by lack of sleep (24 percent) and getting their kids ready for school or day care (10 percent). Here are some of the more outrageous excuses employees gave for being late to work, according to hiring managers:

* My heat was shut off so I had to stay home to keep my snake warm.

* My husband thinks it's funny to hide my car keys before he goes to work.

* I walked into a spider web on the way out the door and couldn't find the spider, so I had to go inside and shower again.

* I got locked in my trunk by my son.

* My left turn signal was out so I had...
