THE CHILD SPEAKS

Editor's Note: The year 1979 is the

International

Year

of

the Child.

To commemorate this historic

event, which involves 143 countries, the Review will publish children's poems

in

each of its 1979

issues.

A

poem is a peek into a person's Being. A child's poem offers

us

the rare opportunity to

see the feelings and concerns of a child, growing and trying to adapt to a fast moving, chaotic

world. Permission to publish has been obtained from

the

author.

The reader is invited to provide the child whose poems appear with some feedback. Such

comments should be mailed to the editor who

will

forward them to the author.

The following was written by a young lady as she was awaiting the outcome of the contested

custody proceeding involving her 12-year old brother.

NEVER ENDING

Thoughtful eyes and

Watchful eyes,

dangling conversations,

crying

and cussing

and sadness

and joy.

Mixed emotions entangle one's every

breath.

This corridor

filled

with

angered souls.

but yet,

in

the corner,

stands a lonely man

or

a

crying child,

and nobody seems to care

WAKE-UP!

the young one's eyes that sit

&

watch

you

so

attentively.

Don't involve the young

in

these games,

the old play,

It's not fair.

When it's over, and you've won,

those who loved you,

still do,

those who didn't

now hate

&

you feel victorious

You have won a battle,

that is still going

on.

it

is never ending

for only a moment you have won,

but soon enough

the crying man,

alone

in

the corner,

will

inclose your

mind.

and begin to haunt you

then,

you've lost!
