The 11th annual Los Angeles Salsa Congress took place May 20 through May 24 at The Radisson Hotel/Los Angeles International Airport. Produced by Albert Torres Productions, this year's somewhat scaled-down event drew thousands of salsa dancers from all corners of the planet for a week everything salsa. Heading the artists lineup were Gilberto Santa Rosa, José Alberto "El Canario" and Choco Orta, backed by a 15-piece orchestra under the musical direction of pianist Oscar Hernández on Friday, May 22, in a tribute performance to the Palladium Mambo Kings Tito Puente, Tiro Rodríguez and Machito. Direct from New York City, Son Boricua, featuring Jimmy Sabater and José Mangual Jr. took the stage on Saturday, May 23 to the delight of dancers, young and old.
