I lost my job as a college tennis coach after a complaint from one of my players and without any opportunity to appeal. I left that job off my resume because I don't think the dismissal reflected my performance. Two months into a new coaching job at another college, the athletic director fired me for the omission. Was her action ethical? D.M New York

IT'S NOT THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR'S ACTIONS you should reconsider but your own. Having lied to get a job, you don't have a leg to stand on, a posture that makes tennis playing difficult indeed.

A resume is assumed to be an accurate record of your professional and educational history. As your career continues, you may leave out less important jobs from your resume to keep it to the conventional length, but not to...
