This is a brief story told in poetry about an immigrant family from Kosova. The narrator is a 13-year-old girl who was trapped in the family's burning house when she was four years old during the war in her country. Her parents brought her to America to start a new life. Now, some years later, as many from Kosova are returning to their country to help rebuild it, there is tension in the family. The daughter feels American and wants to stay; the father longs to return to Kosova; the mother is torn between the two of them.

Then, in their town of Lewiston, Maine, the mayor and others start complaining about having too many immigrants, and some group drops hate leaflets around their neighborhood...
