Dog lovers may think that a vigorously wagging tail means "I am sooo happy to see you," but it turns out to be more complicated than that. The direction of the wag also counts. A recent study at two Italian universities found that when dogs feel positive toward something or someone, their tails wag more to the right side of their rumps; when they have negative feelings, their tail-wagging is biased to the left.
