Rent developments in the state's tech industry present considerable upside potential despite NASDAQ's downturn. With Micron Technology's announcement that it will finally go into production at its facility near Provo, and Intel continuing to hire faster than projected for its Riverton facility, the state of Utah's technology industry looks rosier than in other parts of the country that are more dependent, on software development and dotcoms. Additional industry sectors that remain strong are medical instruments and automotive components, reflective of the general improvement in the state's manufacturing climate. Finally, Utah's telecommunications companies were the leading beneficiary of venture capital dollars at the expense of the dotcoms.
