IRS, TEI Stage Town Hall Meetings To Discuss New LMSB Division.

Twenty-three months after enactment of the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act, the IRSs new Large and Mid-Size Business (LMSB) Division officially stood up on June 4. This summer, TEI members across the country and overseas will begin interacting with the modernized agency.

To orient corporate tax executives and their counterparts in the accounting and law professions to the new IRS structure, TEI has helped the LMSB organization plan 18 external town hall meetings across the country. To be held from from June 21 (in Southern California) to August 18 (in Dallas), these meetings will feature presentations by top LMSB officials as well as panel discussions involving TEI members and other private sector representatives and breakout sessions. These meetings will be attended not only by TEI members and attorneys/accountants in private practice, but also a significant number of IRS employees. The meetings will provide all participants with unique networking opportunities as well as an up-to-the-minute report on how LMSB will affect them.

According to TEI President Charles W. Shewbridge, III, The TEI members who have stepped forward to help plan the external town hall meetings have really performed above and beyond the call of duty. Working with a local IRS counterpart, they have handled everything from arranging for the meeting location, reaching out to local bar and accounting societies, fine-tuning the program, and identifying possible speakers from the corporate ranks. Mr. Shewbridge added that he appreciates all their efforts, as well as the efforts of both LMSB Commissioner Larry Landon and Bob Brazzil, one of the LMSB industry directors, who has been coordinating the town hall meetings from the IRS perspective.

TEI's President strongly urged members to attend the meetings. Not only will your constructive participation help burnish TEIs reputation, Mr. Shewbridge said, but I am confident it will personally benefit you and enable you to more effectively serve your company. The dates, locations, and contact persons for the programs are listed below.
