TEI President Carita R. Twinem will welcome Steven L. Rattner, the Obama Administration's former "car czar" and a regular contributor on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" show, as the opening speaker for TEI's 67th Annual Conference in Hollywood, Florida. "The best of the best" in the tax community will participate in the three-day program, which begins October 29 at the Westin Diplomat.

Ms. Twinem explained the choice of Mr. Rattner to open the conference: "As tax executives, we deal with non-tax executives all the time. Nick Giordano of Washington Council Ernst & Young and Michael Caballero, the former U.S. Treasury Department International Tax Counsel who is now an attorney with Covington & Burling, will participate in a Washington Update session on Monday morning. "Pairing one of Washington's premier tax lobbyists with a well-regarded international policy expert," Ms. Twinem said, "will help us ponder both the fiscal cliff's effects and whether business taxpayers will be confronted with a mountain of legislative changes."

The two and one half days of technical sessions following the opening plenary sessions will afford a rich array of educational material to registrants may select. Whether the focus is international or domestic, technical or managerial, tax planning or controversy, cash management or financial reporting, or "all the above," the 67th Annual Conference holds unparalleled opportunities for education and networking with peers and distinguished practitioners.

For registrants with a domestic focus, the tangibles regulations released earlier this year will provide grist for back-to-back sessions: The first will home in on Maximizing Value through Elections, Method Changes, and Self-help mechanisms while the second will address the Financial Reporting and Disclosure Issues from Implementing the Regulations. The always popular 50 State Tax Update in 60 Minutes will provide a whirlwind survey of the most salient state and local legislative and regulatory developments while separate sessions on a Practical Guide to Handling State Tax Controversies and Practical Pointers to Settle Your Tax Case are must-attend...
