TEI to hold 2nd financial reporting seminar: advanced state & local program slated for December.

Shortly after Labor Day, TEI President Dave Bernard announced that TEI will hold its second financial reporting seminar, Financial Reporting for Tax Executives: Challenges and Opportunities, on December 12-13 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. An identical program, scheduled for November in Chicago, sold out even before a program brochure could be mailed to the membership. Mr. Bernard stated that it was likely the second program will also sell out, predicting that more than 500 people will attend the two seminars.

TEI's financial reporting seminars will focus on the intricacies and implications of FIN 48, the Financial Accounting Standards Board's recent pronouncement on Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes. FIN 48 is intended to eliminate diversity in practice in respect of accounting for uncertain tax positions by providing rules for the recognition, measurement, de-recognition, and disclosure of all tax positions.

"Tax executives attending these programs will receive a thorough explanation FIN 48 and its effect on accounting for income taxes from top-notch practitioners," Mr. Bernard explained. He added that members who are unable to attend either program will be able to purchase seminar materials. (Inquiries should be directed to meetings@tei.org.) Finally, Mr. Bernard noted that space does remain available for a November 14 "back to basics" workshop on FAS 109.
