On 8 to 10 October 2012, TEI EMEA chapter held its Autumn Conference in London, at Deloitte House at the Olympic venue and at the Deloitte offices. Deloitte hosted the event as Education Day Sponsor, with "The Tax Executive and Tax Function of the Future" as theme.

About 85 European Tax professionals from the TEI EMEA chapter attended the two and a half day event in London. Dan De Jong, TEI Tax Counsel, joined the EMEA chapter for the conference.

On the Sunday evening, Pure Taxation, one of TEI's Gold Sponsors for the Annual Conference, kicked off our EMEA Chapter meeting with an apero for the members.

The Autumn Conference began, as usual, with the Chapter Day and the Committee meetings.

After the lunch, sponsored by Longview, 2012-13 EMEA Chapter President, Afke van Mansum, welcomed the participants with an overview of Advocacy initiatives, diversity of the Chapter membership and attendance to conferences, to kick off this year's goals in these areas.

After the updates from the Committee chairs on, amongst other topics, the successful advocacy work with the OECD and European Commission, there was a first panel discussion on the overall theme of the Conference.

Deloitte and Pure Taxation discussed "Trends in the Tax Function", reflecting on what they see as the market trends in interactions with their clients.

This topic was nicely leading into the second panel discussion, hosted by Lunch Sponsor Longview on "Automation in the Corporate Tax Function", with practical input from Longview customer AMEC, on how to streamline tax reporting.

International Bureau for Fiscal Documentation researcher Shee Boon Law gave us useful insights into the risks related to Withholding Taxes on Cross-Border Transactions, based on some unfortunate experiences tax payers had with a.o. India.
