TEI Working Group addresses issues concerning temporary unemployed members.

The following report was submitted by Robert J. McDonough, chair of TEI's Engaging Members Working Group.

The Engaging Members Working Group has examined the difficulties faced by members who are temporary unemployed (TUMs). This issue was previously addressed by the Membership Committee which, among other recommendations, proposed that TUMs be allowed to attend meetings at a reduced rate. We are pleased that several members took advantage of this opportunity at the 2004 Midyear Conference, and the benefit will be continued.

The working group identified an additional way that local TEI chapters can help TUMs during their transition period--conducting periodic networking meetings with and for TUMs. This meeting should be hosted by the chapter officers and the chair of the chapter's Employment Committee.
