Woowee! TEI chapters make more than $176,000 in scholarship grants.

PositionChapter News

Education is a core value of Tax Executives Institute and in the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2011, TEI's chapters put their money where their mouth is. The chapters collectively made scholarship grants to 78 individuals that totalled $176,364.83 (U.S.) This represents an 11-percent percent over last year's grants. Recipients included undergraduates and graduate students in Masters of Taxation and Accounting programs.

Thirty-nine of TEI's fifty-six chapters have formal scholarship programs, with a fortieth chapter expected to establish a program later this year.

"College and university tuition costs are not insignificant today, regardless of where you live or work," explained TEI President David Penney of the Toronto Chapter. "I commend our chapters that stepped up to the challenge, despite the economic downturn. Scholarship awards, no matter how modest, are greatly appreciated by the recipients. The generosity of our chapters sends a clear and powerful message, not only to the recipients but to the colleges and universities they attend and, indeed, society, as a whole: TEI cares about and wants to encourage the next generation of tax professionals."

To encourage chapter participation in TEI's scholarship program, the Institute has a matching funds program for chapters that award scholarships and meet certain financial criteria. For more information, please contact Coleman Lane at 202.464.8357 or ckane@tei.org.
