Alaska High-Tech Council: bridging the critical path for Alaska's technology industry.

Founded in 1996 with 27 member companies, the Alaska High-Tech Business Council is Alaska's statewide technology trade association, with more than 100 organization members.

The Alaska Science & Technology Foundation, a council sponsor, estimates that the industry is Alaska's fastest-growing sector (starting from a small base), with more than 13,000 professionals (excluding sole-proprietor businesses). Nearly 500 tech-related companies are servicing, designing and deploying technology applications that range from GIS data mapping to information security, software development, Internet applications, and networking solutions.

The Alaska High-Tech Council's mission is to enable the continued growth and development of the technology industry in Alaska. Its programs and services are industry-based and industry-driven, and include:

* An aggressive information and computer technology workforce development initiative that stimulated more than $1 million in training in 2001-2002 and strategic alliances with five other industry sectors that face similar challenges in developing an adequate and competent supply of professionals for the future (oil and gas, health, construction, tourism, and seafood processing).

* A business liability insurance program designed specifically for technology companies, in partnership with the Information Technology Association of America;

* Monthly educational and networking events to increase and facilitate connections and knowledge within the tech community;
