Your students probably assume that when they do a Google search, their results are the same as everyone else's. Not so in China, where the government, with Google's cooperation, has made sure that the results are to its liking. It's just a small part of Beijing's effort to control what its 1.3 billion citizens see on the Web. But Google recently threatened to pull out of China unless the government stops forcing it to censor its results. In our cover story, Times columnist Nicholas Kristof looks at the impact Google's stand could have on the Chinese people.
